After talking about OpenFX and OpenColorIO, now I have discovered OpenTimelineIO:

Allows you to convert the various XML formats used by programs into a standard so as to make projects compatible.

That would certainly be worthwhile integration in the long term.
Certainly the following projects would also be interesting:
OpenColorIO (we have already talked about this)
OpenVDB
OpenCue
