Proxy set video bitrate

I can't change the video bitrate.

There are two values 2000000 (2 Mbit ?) and in the text area another setting b=1800k which should be 1,8 Mbit shouldn't it?

No matter how far I raise these values (without touching any other settings) the bitrate for proxy clips remains the same.

I delete the proxy files at the file-system before creating new proxy files of course.

Not sure why it is not possible; it seems like there should be a way.  @IgorBeg maybe has a solution.

Usually the "Bitrate" field overwrite the value in the text edit (the window in white colour) below, where you can see "b=1800k".

What I know, the Bitrate value have to be written completely, NO "k", "M". So, if you want 4M, you have to write 4000000.

My test, here, on "mov.mov" works correctly.

You could delete the text "b=1800k" and seeing what happens.

I tested it but it just doesn't raise the bitrate.

It is possible to reduce the bitrate even more, or set bitrate to 0 and change quality to different values.

But finally the bitrate never is more than 2 MBit which is too little for mov.mov

What value would you like for proxy?

(What is your source format?)

I'm using 4K DNXHR SQ which has 490 MBit bitrate in a mov container.

Without testing 20 MBit for the proxy could play out for me.

I don't know if you are using Proxy with "Rescaled to project size (FFMPEG only)" checked or unchecked; I alway use it unchecked.
However, could you do a test? Here it works.
Insert 20000000 in the Bitrate value and in the text area, below b=1800k, add "minrate=20000000".
You should see this:

Compression: mov.mov
Bitrate: 20000000
Quality: -1 (grayed)
Pixels: yuv420p
Video Options:
  b=1800k
  minrate=20000000

Keep in mind that "ffrobe" shows the average bitrate, and that bitrate is VBR (Variable); if you use "MediaInfo" program you can see the bitrate and the maximum bit rate.
Output from "MediaInfo" by test:

Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 9 942 kb/s
Maximum bit rate : 20.0 Mb/s

good point!

I do use the "Rescaled to project size" feature. I'm not sure whether I need it but my machine is not that slow and I didn't want to have any not working features (and even worse not knowing why it doesn't work). The tip says there would be some issues with some plugins when unchecked (default).

I'm going to test later today.

I'm just quick checking at the file-system. 11 seconds clip with 3 MB ~ 270 KB/s ~ 2300 kbit/s

I deleted the old files, unchecked rescale and copied&pasted the bitrate and the additional setting for minrate.

For me it doesn't work. That's not a big problem.
