Problems with rendering; video split into parts & bitrate is needed for lossless.m2ts

Hello,

I would like to render my video (clips on a single track) as a whole but it renders as multiple clips.  (I had the same issue when trying to render audio from a few tracks).  Also I need my video file to be high quality so that I can convert to an image sequence for furthur compositing in an external program.  The other option would be to render right away to an image sequence either TiFF, PNG or EXR if possible, keeping it at 1920X1080 24fps...

I have disarmed all other tracks and set my in and out points and tried to render from these.  I used ffmpeg, m2ts, only the video tool, enabled with lossless.m2ts compression.  I kept the default which is yuv420p. bitrate & quality are at 0.  I disabled proxy.

When I read the codec in VLC I got what seemed to be the right codec H264 mpeg4 AVC...but the dimensions and quality was wrong, it looked lower quality & (2160 X 3840) & it only occupied around 1/9th of the screen.   I am not sure what bitrate/quality to use for full HD output 24fps (original files are 1080p60fps MTS AVCHD).

pls. let me know what needs to be done.

Update:  I'm not sure why my project was not set to 1980 X 1080 anymore, but 2160 X 3840 and 9:16 so I set it back to full HD and 16:9 & for some reason it rendered the file as a whole and at the right dimensions!  I re-read the info on rendering in lossless and it seems the default should be ok but only thing is that my video has a weird 'posterization' occuring throughout for some reason yet I basically have no effects applied!  I only had edited the desired clips & applied a reverse effect on a small portion of the clips.  The render is otherwise at least the same quality of the original with portions of loss of colour and detail occuring...

What is your workflow to load media in Cinelerra-GG?
For Example :
1. Create a new Project and load media -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN65958gpBQ
2. Insert the clips in the Timeline -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgLAaxmCsNk

Do you see the same "posterization" also in Compositor windows of Cinelerra-GG?
What is the "Colour Space" of your source video? You can check that using Mediainfo program or "ffprobe" command.

Hello IgorBeg,

So the good news is that after viewing in another video player (MPV movie player) & reviewing the pre-rendered footage & rendered clip in the compositor, all seems to be fine, looks ok!   The rendered video is bt709.  It turns out that VLC isn't as capable at viewing diverse codecs as I had assumed!  I am relieved, since this is an 'intermediate'.

BTW is it worth or preferred changing the video settings from preset=medium to preset=very slow for rendering before converting to image sequences?

Also in the video preset window, are the quality and bitrate showing both as zero not to be concerned with? I guess the default preset overrides it (I found the preset in the video options window)?

from

ffprobe:

Input #0, mpegts, from 'myfootageclip.m2ts':
 Duration: 00:01:24.17, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 142298 kb/s
 Program 1
   Metadata:
     service_name    : myfootageclip.m2ts
     service_provider: cin5

Stream #0:0[0x1011]: Video: h264 (High 4:4:4 Predictive) ([27][0][0][0] / 0x001B), yuvj420p
(pc, bt709/unknown/unknown, progressive), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 24 fps, 24 tbr, 90k t
bn, 48 tbc

note: I believe I may have inadvertently changed my settings along the way when I was trying to pick the best proxy for my project, & trying various options, & each time saving a new project file. It was hard to combine my image sequences (which are best at 1:1 scale) & MTS files and picking an alpha proxy that would work for all my media.  I ended up only reloading my MTS video & chosing (1/4 scale ffmpeg; png.qt) proxy.   I have not turned back on the proxy tab yet, so I'm not sure what the project format will change to after I do.

@blueskies3

Just addressing a couple of things until you reply to IgorBeg and he has a chance to reply.

I'm not sure why my project was not set to 1980 X 1080 anymore, but 2160 X 3840 and 9:16

As far as I know, the only way this can happen is if at some point in time, either you accidentally set them using the Preferences->Format, File->New project, Match Project Size in the Resources window, Resize Track in the program window (right mouse button) OR you loaded a video with the 2160x3840/9:16 format and dragged video from the Resources Window without changing the format.

my video has a weird 'posterization' occuring throughout for some reason

applied a reverse effect on a small portion of the clips.

This also sounds like some kind of accident for which I have no explanation (that is why waiting to hear back from Igor!).  BUT it might be possible that the reverse effect that you viewed before the render had more of an effect than you bargained for.  If you are using the Preferences->Settings, Playback A tab, Driver of X11-OpenGL, it is possible you were fooled in seeing what OpenGL showed on the timeline, which differed from what you would get when you Render which uses strictly Software.

(clips on a single track) as a whole but it renders as multiple clips

Is it possible that you had small spaces between the clips, so that it just looked like multiple clips when in reality there really was blank space?

Also, In/Out points often take precedence over every thing else soe you always have to be aware when using them.  If you are concerned that there is actually a "bug" in CinGG settings, you can temporarily start with a default Cinelerra_rc settings file and see if you still have these same kind of problems.  That is, instead of bin/cin or however you start Cinelerra, use CIN_CONFIG=/tmp/temporary_default_settings bin/cin.

Hello @phylsmith2004,

Sorry, I'm not answering in order:

-I just carefully re-watched my clip in both mpv & SM movie players; clip looks really good, even for the reverse portion of the clip! Isn't that a sign that all is fine, esp. since I will be doing furthur rendering (to image sequence) next?

-My clips do have spaces, and its what I wanted for this intermediate render.  Once I corrected my project format, I finally ended up with a single clip in the folder I set it to render to.  I also have both multiple clips and the full clip in my project ressources.  I will try to render my audio files again (which are on multiple tracks) & see if they can render as a single stereo audio clip.

-As far as my project being odd dimensioned, since it had been some time, I forgot what happened;  It had nothing to do with proxies;  It was when I had to rotate some of my clips.  (Which is now the next render (#2) that I will attempt).  When you rotate 90 dgr, part of the image gets lost (top and bottom).  I am not sure what I should do next, if I would like the full subject in the frame, and I don't want it to move anywhere in the projector, relative to way it was shot originally.  Since I still want to composite externally before I decide what I will be doing with my subject.  I hope this is not too confusing.  I will read up on rotating and if I still am still stumped, I will ask a new question.

@blueskies

Thanks for the followup.  Sounds like all is GOOD! and there is no code bug for me to worry about.

Good! I am glad that it is good, right now.
And very good what @phylsmith2004 pointed out.

I don't understand what you are referring to.

Could you add some images (screencast) please? If you want you can upload them to https://transfer.sh
